Well the article is basically summarizing a Moody's report "Insurance companies face greater dangers from climate change, including weather-related catastrophes and court fights, than they do silver linings, according to a report released today by Moody’s Investors Service, the ratings agency." > > Poor scientific american, infested with non scientific degreed contract > journalists for the last 20 years. For this topic, the issues are economic. the author is a journalist. So are you saying journalists must be degreed in the field of reporting? So to report on crime, they must have a criminal justice degree? Or to report on shipping, have a degree in navigation? My conclusion is: Looks like the MBAs are catching onto the dangers associated with possible climate change. Ed

But actuarial tables are based on large collections of statical data, much like parts of physics. > > > but none of this is hardly related to Climate Change, which is a long > term effect of 0.1 C per decades. It is a very long term average. Actuaries look at long term effects. They take no political stand. It's all about the numbers, profit and loss. The report says essentially: you ignore climate change, you better be prepared for heavy financial loses. > > Love to see Lloyds put out a study on climate change, its effects would > be down in the noise. The report says > essentially: you ignore climate change, you better be prepared > for heavy financial loses. well, climate change is very very slow, totally ignorable over the lifetime of most all companies. alarmists like to speed up the scale of change by a factor of 1000 or more take sea rise, it occurs slowly, so there is lots of time for the infrastructure to move or improve. take New york city, if the sea rises 20 foot, gotta do something, but it may take 200 or more years for that to happen, and the Gov will do it, by zoning, and those too close to the water will have very high cost insurance. I think it will just be a natural process, as most commertial buildings only last 30-50 years anyway. and actuaries can adjust the intensity and frequency of storms, if it happens that way, which will make insurance rates rise. like houston galveston area, and its storms, and flordia, teh zoning changes and insurance guides rebuilding away from the water, but one cannot say climate change did it, as climate change is only 0.1 C per decades, >> >> Love to see Lloyds put out a study on climate change, its effects would >> be down in the noise. > > It would be interesting. > >> >> Bitcoin has a far worse impact, due to energy usage alone. cost is about >> $1,200 in electricity per bitcoin (depends on cost of electricity) > > bitcoin is down but apparently it is still worth the cost > to mine it for some folks. > > Ed >
