No, CME's were NOT discovered by spacecraft in the early 70s, this was
the first direct observation of a CME as it happend.

The first CME noted was the massive storm of 1 September 1859 but it required
the discovery of X-rays and the recognition of the ionosphere before it
could be understood what happened.

Sun storm is a EM havac event.That is easily proven in many ways TreBert

   It's hard for the jimp to admit a mistake -- CMEs were DISCOVERED by
   the world of astronomy in 1971. Nobody knew what a CME was before this
   new phenomenon showed up 1971.

It was not a new phenomenon in 1971; it was a first direct observation
but there is evidence that a CME was observed during an eclipse in
the 19th Century.

What a CME actually is was theorized well before 1971, the observations
in 1971 proved it.

Something is "discovered" when it is first noticed and CME's were noticed
long before 1971.

Determining what that discovery is is something else.

CME's were explained in 1971.
