The 'drop a magnet through a copper pipe' trick is an excellent 
demonstration of the combination of Faraday's Law of Induction and Lenz's
Law.

The moving magnet generates an electric field according to Faraday's
Law in the set of Maxwell's Equations: curl(E) = -dB/dt.

As copper is a conductor, that generates a current around the 
circumference of the pipe, the pipe is essentially a one turn wire loop
with a magnet moving through it.

Lenz's Law states the induced current generates a magnetic field which
opposes the magnetic field that generated it.

This magnetic field, by opposing that of the original falling magnet, 
slows it.
