Utter shit nonsense.

Dangerous acts are fodder for idiots, which is why the "popular"
science media makes them their stock in trade.

Perhaps the most "exciting" DIY experiment that I've ever
performed was measuring the thermodynamic activity coefficient
of an aqueous electrolyte solution and comparing that measurement
with a theoretical calculation.

Another of equal "thrill" was determining the FFT spectrum
of various objects to explore the idea of non-harmonic
vibrations.

In these cases the excitement and thrills are largely
in the mind.

Scientists DO engage in risky experiments, but only
after establishing highly safe protocols, and the
danger or risk is NEVER the primary, or even secondary,
motivation.

Any scientist who seeks explosions for the sake of
the explosion has psychological, or at least maturation,
problems.
