Moron-y that's not assertion.....a meter stick will come back the same length after a journey. If you accelerated wrt me will not affect the length of my meter stick. OTOH, what you said is assertion. Your bogus definition for the meter length (1meter=1/299,792,458 light-second) is circular.....that's why such length is not an intrinsic property of the meter stick. > > You keep asserting false statements such as this yet you always tell people > that "Assertion is not a valid argument". Do you believe that > you, and only you, are allowed to make assertions? > > > A meter stick remains the same length in all frames of reference. > > We already know from experiments that this is false.

Just like the kinetic energy of a bullet fired from a gun and stopped by a target, comes back to the same value (zero) after being fired. Does that mean its kinetic energy is intrinsic, and zero? No, because while it was moving, it most certainly wasn't zero! >If you accelerated wrt me will not affect the length of my meter stick. As seen in your frame (not accelerated), yes. But if I move wrt you and I measure your meter stick, I will measure something less than 1 meter. So the length obviously is frame dependent, and therefore not an intrinsic property, by definition.

So the length obviously is frame dependent, > and therefore not an intrinsic property, by definition. First of all, no such measurement is feasible.....SR and LET math predict length contraction. But physicists don't know what is contracting so they excepted the following CONTRADICTORY explanations to explain the length contraction equation: 1. There is no material length contraction....a meter stick will have the same material length in all frames of reference. But material length of a meter stick is not an intrinsic property. 2. A moving meter stick will return the same length after a journey. 3. Tom Roberts said that length contraction is a geometric projection effect but that does not mean that length contraction is an apparent effect. 4. The two ends of a moving meter stick is MEASURED (how??) by an observer to have different velocities because the signal from the two ends will arrive at the observer at different times. IRT explains the length contraction equation as follows: 1. Material length of a meter stick is an intrinsic property. 2. There is no material length contraction. 3. The light-path length of a moving meter stick is predicted to be foreshortened by a factor of 1/gamma. This prediction is based on the assumption that the light-path length of the observer's meter stick is its material length. 4. These IRT explanations will eliminate all the paradoxes of SRT.

On 19/09/16 12:07, Michael Moroney confirmed that he is even more stupid than Gary Harnagel. A rod can be taken anywhere anyhow and will experience no change. The rod has two ends and between those ends is some material. The amount of material between the two ends does not change either and so it is the same in all frames. It is therefore quite obvious that any rod defines the same absolute spatial interval in all frames. If a moving observer measures it to be different, then his method must be flawed. No experiment has ever verified length contraction.

No, Ralph Malcolm, the moving observer will, in fact, measure the rod's length as contracted, Ralph. >No experiment has ever verified length contraction. Ralph Malcolm Rabbidge, the fact that you bury your head in the sand and refuse to read the evidence, Ralph, that Paul Andersen and others have given you (Ralph), doesn't mean no experiment has ever made a verification, Ralph Rabbidge. Mr. Rabbidge, all that means is that you haven't seen the evidence provided to you, Ralph.

But this presumes that the whole length is comprised of, say, N atoms each of diameter d so that L=Nd. And it is true that N is the same regardless of frame, but d is not. Another way of saying it is that the DENSITY of the rod changes with observer. > If a moving observer measures it to be different, then his method must > be flawed. > No experiment has ever verified length contraction. Nope, that is a good analogy. You make a motion change to something and then reverse the change (bringing it back to zero velocity), it is exactly the same as it was originally. All I did was replace "measured length" with "kinetic energy". >> >4. So if IRT fails then SRT failed also. No, IRT cannot include SR as a subset. If it did, then IRT would agree with *everything* that SR states. Every single thing. This has been explained to you many times before. IRT does not agree with SR so SR cannot possibly be a subset of IRT. Of course where IRT is a complete failure is where it disagrees with SR.

There is nothing contradictory between any of these statements. I imagine there is some contradiction between these statements and some OTHER unstated statements that you may believe are true. Such as: A meter stick will return to the same length only if length is an intrinsic property. Such a statement is wrong, however. -- Odd Bodkin --- maker of fine toys, tools, tables

Bodkin, of course a moving rod will appear to have a length that is not its intrinsic length if its ends are detected at the wrong locations and at the wrong instants. ...and that is what your silly theory and its 'geometric projection' advocates.

To measure a moving rod, I simply set up two separated clocks which were synched together, then I move the rod past the clocks. I can determine its speed from the time taken for ONE END to pass both clocks and then determine its length by timing when each end passes ONE clock. If I don't get the right answer I will have to check my procedure and do it again. What is the problem there Bodkin? >> ...and that is what your silly theory and its 'geometric >> projection' advocates. >> > >
