I still remember him--in the back row--of the Challenger Disaster Committee with his glass of ice water and his little ball of silicone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raMmRKGkGD4 He was always a loose cannon and the chairman of the committee had to shut him down. The ever supercilious Feynman gives an account of he and his son reading over some text book of the son's having to do with one of the soft sciences, and roaring with laughter at what he perceived to be the ill-defined terms of that particular science. He hadn't the foggiest notion that his great love, mathematics, was a corrupted tool where even a Dolan can demonstrate beyond reasonable doubt that 1 = -1. Did Feynman perform wonderful math? Of course! Who couldn't, using a logical mode of expression infected by the principle of explosion in which ANY proposition is deducible. Don't believe me? Ask me to demonstrate any equation, no matter how preposterous, either in physics or in pure math. I DARE YOU.

You are -- typically for an American -- forgetting the essential contributions made by British, Canadian and refugee-German scientists, without which there would have been no bomb. Fuchs himself made major contributions, but he was increasingly concerned by his realization that the USA was not planning to pass on any information to its allies, most notably the USSR, in the war against Nazi Germany. After the war the USA tried, with partial success, to exclude even the UK from any information about the results from the Manhattan project. However, as we know, the Americans defeated Germany without any participation by anyone else, so why shouldn't they keep the results to themselves? In reality, of course, it was primarily the USSR that defeated Germany, something Hitler understood perfectly well when he placed 35 Divisions on the Eastern Front and just one on the Western Front. On the other hand, I can accept that it was the USA that defeated Japan. -- athel -- biochemist, not a physicist, but detector of crackpots

Yes, poor halfbrain, it was THEIR programme. Resulting with THEIR bomb.

This request to revoke his security clearance is predicated on what can only be construed as the pro-Fuchs, pro-Julius and Ethel sentiments expressed by Athel in the preceding post. I request that he be officially excluded from all further threads concerned with atomic secrets. As for Athel, may he find consolation in the possibility that Bob Dylan will write a song for him.

Starmaker! I had no idea of the BD plagiarism. Please present your case. Especially for "My Back Pages" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGEIMCWob3U Just look at Neil Young, the angriest man in music. And the only singer worse than BD hizself. If (when) Trump is re-elected, his Bush-Trump derangement syndrome will kill him. Why couldn't Tom Petty outgrow the hard drugs?
