Providing a false service can cost much, much more than the price charged for the correct service. For example, the oil change places change oil in cars all day long for $50 or whatever. But if they do it wrong, for example, forgeting to replace the drain plug, they will do a lot more damage than $50. If the oil change place does that, they had better pay for the damage to the engine, which will greatly exceed $50. Stupid Ken, Let's say the design of a bridge depends in part on the answer to (-6)/(-2), and I pay you $10 for the answer, and you give me the wrong answer. Because your answer is wrong, the bridge collapses when the first vehicle crosses it. The damage you caused by your wrong answer greatly exceeds $10, and even greatly exceeds $100. $10 for a correct answer which a competent engineer could crank out all day, with a $100 penalty for a wrong answer sounds fair to me, although the penalty for the wrong answer should exceed even $100. However, I still refuse to pay you $10 for a wrong answer, and I know you won't ever pay $100 for providing me the wrong answer, and you won't (can't) provide the correct answer.
