If you did, you'd see how Einstein stated that this "aether" of his did not possess the properties associated with the traditional lumeriferous aether. He explicitly stated it doesn't have properties of motion. So his original statement eliminating the old lumeriferous aether with motion properties didn't apply to his SR work on motion.
