You are incorrect, Peter. It is true that gravity falls with distance 
outside the surface of the sun. But what is also true is that the 
gravity also falls as you head inward from the surface. For a uniform 
body, the gravity would be maximal at the surface. As it turns out, of 
course, the sun and the earth are not uniform so this changes a bit, but 
the general conclusions are right. Here's the graph of gravity for the 
Earth. See how it's zero at the center, reaches a peak, and then falls 
outside of one earth radius?
