We have to accept that we cannot ever solve all problems everywhere. What we can do is to put mechanisms in place to mitigate and manage the risk, and especially to reduce the fallout. We cannot put boots on the ground in all the hot spots. Nor can we go round ignoring everything. And there is neither the will nor the resources to do a proper job of nation-building for every pisspot banananana republic that would require it. So the least bad alternative, however frustrating and unpalatable, is to stick with diplomacy and international cooperation ... and try not to badmouth and undermine those institutions too much.
