I expect that matter is a unique item. Protons are not made out of energy looping in a knot. Protons are fundamental particles of matter and are not made of only energy in a knot. When protons collide and sparks fly, the sparks can be misinterpretted as quarks. But matter is not condensed continuum. Matter swaps dimensions of continuum. Matter takes space and gives time. My own assumption is, that matter is similar to patterns - like waves on water or vortices in air. There is a medium I call 'spacetime', from which such patterns could emerge. This medium is actually 'nothing'. The process to create stuff from nothing is similar to split zeros into plus one and minus one and than count only in the positive side. This would generate a kind of stage, consisting of points, which have a direction. This direction is like a vector, that sticks to this point. These vectors are now distributed to the neighbours in a certain way, which is similar to how quaternions are multiplied. The positive side and the negative interact like an overlay of expansion and contraction, which causes standing waves and among those are structures, that we call 'matter' The connection to the neighbours is actually a specific type of rotation. And such rotation waves are, what we call 'atoms'. The inner core of this wave represents 'plus' as the waves goes out. And the outer rim represents the same waves potential to go in. If this wave 'rolls away', we call that 'light'. And if light hit a conductive barrier, we call that 'charge'. and so forth... This concept sounds certainly a little strange. But it is, as far as I can tell, consistent with all aspects of the real world. Its also really sparse in assumptions and has internal logic. And it's actually my own invention, hence I like to promote the idea occasionally.
