First of all, learn the difference between *gravity* waves and 
*gravitational* waves:

“Classical effects”, by which you maybe mean classical, Newtonian 
_mechanics_, predict the former, but not the latter.  *Gravity* waves then 
*are* a classical effect, not a prediction by them.

Effects do not predict; effects *are predicted* by _theories_.  A theory is 
*confirmed* if the effects predicted by it are *observed*, otherwise it is 
*falsified*.
