This is part of what the access media does with Star Trek and all other
produtions. Fans don't like Starfleet Academy so they attack us and call
us names. Jonathan Frakes and Robert Picardo are out actively doing so
and it's a media opp.

I read Frakes' actual comments, and he doesn't really blast Star Trek
fans. He points out that the resistance to each Trek iteration has been
higher. He's right. There were objections to ST:TNG and ST:DS9, but
nothing like the objections to more recent shows.

At some point there will be more people yelling at them to please stop
than actually watching the latest show.

That because there are fewer people who know how to make the shows
properly, and more idiots that want to shoehorn in their own ridiculous
ill-fitting ideas.

As for Frakes, just bare in mind that he himself ruined the
"Thunderbirds" franchise*. He signed on to make the movie without even
knowing what it was, watched a couple of episodes and thought he knew
it all ... and the resulting mess of a movie proces he had absolutely
no idea at all. X-(

* Although he was alone. The later rather silly CGI animated series
also added more ill-fitting silliness.

Okay, but is that relevant to Trek? Or do you just mean that you hate
him for that?

He's basically saying more people don't like each "new Trek" for
whatever rason, but he ruined Thunderbirds ... so he is a great example
of how things do get ruined by new idiots being put in charge.

Hmm. I didn’t much care for V’ger, or Disco, or Pick A Card. Strange New
Worlds was ok, and Lower Decks, once past the first few episodes of the first
season, was excellent. Not as good as TNG or DS9, but far better than Disco.
I have actively avoided seeing any eps of Starfleet Academy.

I can now recommend Star Trek Continues, a fan production available on
YouTube. It's not like most fan productions. It matches the quality of
ST:TOS, or at least the first few episodes do, and matches its style and
tone as well.

Yeah, forgot about that show. It was quite solid.

The guy who played Sulu was the engineer dude from mythbusters.

If it’s like The Doomsday Machine or The Enterprise Incident, no prob. If
it’s like Spock’s Brain, I’ll pass.

I will give Lower Decks a shot this weekend. Only heard good things
about it from sources I respect.

Maybe, just maybe, it'll give a glimmer of hope that my beloved
franchise isn't truly dead...

Unlike most trekkies, I also loved star wars. For me, that franchise is
much more deader-er than star trek.

Like Star Trek, the Star Wars animated shows are often better than the
live-action ones.

Indeed, for sure. Way better. But those series are in the can. Sure
we're getting yet more maul. We'll see if Filoni will stick with his
normal form or if the promotion got to his head.

I hope...

"Young Jedi Adventures" is quite good - even though aimed at
youngsters, it is still better than some of the live-action shows /
movies!

There are also some more "Visions" animations coming some stage this year.

There was the "A Droid Story" animated series / film? announced by
Disney in 2020, but nothing more has been heard of it since then.

I watched 'Continues' back when it came out. As I recall it was
ultimately responsible for killing off all the Star Trek fan productions
because they started raising money to make a Star Trek movie. Paramount
didn't mind the fan productions as long as they weren't trying to make
money but raising a million or two for a movie was way too much so they
had to let loose the lawyers of war and basically shut _everyone_ down.

I watched a video about this the other day. You're thinking of Axanar,
which was done by a different group of fans. The Star Trek Continues
project was completed without incident.

There are a bunch of these. Star Trek Phase II is another one I see on
YouTube, and there's one about the adventures of a ship called the
Farragut.

Paramount should have hired them.

It's a growing movement. People want it to stop altogether. I guess the
community still cares about the whole thing. The franchise was epsteined
so I don't care either way. My breaking point was STD. Picard was
unwatchable. I won't bother with the shit in production. The premise is
sooooooooo fucking stupid.

Objections to TNG were very minimal. My evidence on it was the sudden
surge in convention attendance. It grew leaps and bounds during the TNG
era. Resistence to DS9 came from the fact that it wasn't based on a
ship. I have friends who still refuse to watch DS9 because none of them
consider starfleet politics a compelling story basis. So, to them it's
all preference.

I was in the service during DS9's run so I didn't watch it until many
years later. Rather enjoyed it. It was fun to watch the actors interpret
characters who didn't really like or trust each other and learn to work
together in a cohesive unit. And, also, characters who didn't want to
be there to begin with. The acting on that show was really worthy.

Also, bonus the recurring female actors were eye candy.

Some complaints were also that is was simply a rip-off of "Babylon 5"
since both were based around a space station, but "Deep Space 9" has
far less political nonsense and is a MUCH MUCH MUCH better show. "Deep
Space 9" was okay, except for the silly religious Prophets mumbo-jumbo,
but it wasn't the best of the Trek shows of the pre-downfall shows (the
downfall started with the ridiculous "Enterprise").
