  Yes, there is a thing called 'WhatsApp Web', which runs in a
webbrowser, but that is only for the output to the screen and input
from the keyboard. The actual sending and receiving is still done on a
(Android/iOS) phone/tablet. I.e. if you want to use a computer, you do
not use a computer *instead of* a phone/tablet, but *in addition to* a
phone/tablet. And yes, that is totally stupid, but it's the way it is.

  These kludges ['WhatsApp Web'] do *not* "allow WhatsApp to function on
the iPad", but are *wrappers* around a thing called 'WhatsApp Web',
which is a kludge made by WhatsApp to let non-phone device A talk to
phone device B, where phone device B does the actual sending and
receiving. That *seems* not too bad, but is outright crazy, because it
requires phone device B to be *on* *and* have an Internet connection.
IOW, non-phone device A is just a remote display and keyboard for phone
device B.

  Yes, if you search for this, you will find tons of documents which
more or less imply that there *is* such a client, namely 'WhatsApp Web'.

  'WhatsApp Web' is a browser extension for Chrome (and others?). Well,
using a browser isn't that great, but heh, it's a solution.

  But no, it's *not* a (realistic) solution, because 'WhatsApp Web' does
not actually send/receive messages. What it does is that it talks to
the WhatsApp software on your mobile phone and your *mobile phone* does
the actual sending and receiving. How silly is *that*!?

  So for this to work, your 'desktop' must be on and have an Internet
connection *and* your phone must be *on* and have an Internet
connection.

  So this 'WhatsApp Web' is nothing more than using your desktop's
display and keyboard instead of the phone's display and 'keyboard'.

  Brilliant, NOT!

  FYI, there any many 'WhatsApp Web' look-alikes, wrappers, etc., but
they all have the same limitation that you still need an active phone
with an active Internet connection.
