Surely. Or I can wait, not miss much by doing so and catch up later.

You should do what makes you comfortable, of course. Others can feel
free to do as they wish as well. Everyone happy now?

In my case, I got bitten once with iTunes allowing my phone to be
upgraded, only to find out afterwards that the same iTunes would refuse
to connect (and being on Snow Leopard I could not upgrade iTunes).

I was able to get the prevous .ipsw and DFU install it onto my iPhone,
and the only reason it worked was that because I made that attempt on
the day or or a day after launch, Apple was still signing the older
versions.

So while the odds of bugs are higher on .0 releases, you are able to
test and revert to previous version when you do this right away, but if
you wait long enough, you can't.

Except fopr "Mail" no longer beeping when it gets new mail, the rest
seems pretty stable for my type of use.

This just in:

Yeah !!!! Apple finally fixed it in IOS 10: When taking photo (live
pics: off) music now continues to play. YUGE improvement!

Then you may as well end it all now. There will always be glitches.

Not at all. The .0 glitches can be bad - and there's no urgency in
getting the major update anyway.

All in all, though, iOS 10 is a good update with a lot to offer and
there¹s really no reason not to install it on any hardware that can
run it. It doesn¹t murder your battery, it doesn¹t hurt performance
too badly. It takes up more storage space, but that¹s been a fact of
life for every iOS update for years now. I¹ve been running it on my
actual production iPhone and iPad for the last month and a half, and
the GM build seems stable. App updates are already rolling out. There
really isn¹t much of a downside.

The logic fail there is I have no idea if there are glitches when the
new iOS comes out. I really am not chomping at the bit to get it. I'm
quite content to let the eager beavers discover terra incognita for me.

Also of course, 10 is already at 10.0.1 - something went boink.

Nor is there any upside at all that will improve my life or use of the
phone in any way significant to me or mankind until I eventually get
around to it.

Oh, and there's this:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2016/09/15/people-are-complaining-that-ios-10-is-slowing-their-iphones-down/

This is near classic - and usually takes Apple a couple iterations to
identify the bottlenecks and get the worst speed bumps out.

Colour me patient.

then wait a day and find out if there's anything major.

there was a glitch for an hour, long since fixed. other than that, it's
smooth sailing.

however, nothing is perfect and out over 250 million current users,
there will be a few with minor issues.

that happened *before* it was released.

the golden master last week was 10.0.1.

watchos 3 alone is worth it, as is apple's homekit app (the third party
ones suck, anywhere from a little to complete garbage).

nothing but linkbait.

the 'slowdown' happens because it's reindexing everything, scanning
photos for scene recognition, etc.

once that completes, the problem goes away, but explaining that doesn't
make for good linkbait.

There is nothing about iOS 10 that is important to anyone except on an
emotional thrill scale. While improvements to notifications are welcome
- they are not urgently needed. While improvements to Messages are
great, they are not urgently needed. etc.

I guess I'm one of those who uses my iPhone as a tool for work (first)
and as a life utility/entertainment far less. As a tool, with iOS 9,
all is quite well and I'll update to 10 in my own good time when I'm
satisfied it won't cause any issues.

I've also got the increasingly troublesome touch disease on my iPhone 6.
Genius appointment for Monday. Though now I might just walk in and
ask them for a tradeup to the 7+ and see where the chips fall.

Since I haven't been overwhelmed with a need for the Apple Watch nor
have I bought any homekit using devices, that's pretty moot.

those are just two of *numerous* improvements, listed here:

many apple related sites discuss it and the mere fact that the whining
stops in a couple of days.

every year it's the same shit, "it's so slow and my battery drains so
fast", then a day or two later they all realize it was just temporary
and stop bitching.

people like to complain.

ios 9 was actually *faster* than ios 8 on the same hardware, yet people
complained it was slower.

Not mentioned is the new magnifiying glass in IOS 10.

(Enabled via the geriatric menu (Setup -> General -> Accessibility).

Can't read the bill in a dark restaurant ? Tripple click on home button
and voila.

In Camera another huge improvement. they moved the useless and annoying
"Filters" button out of the way. All too oten finger would touch it when
trying to change mode or press shutter.

You misunderstand what I mean. The "thrill" is people eager to upgrade
iOS when there is no urgency at all to do so.

Such philosophies are easy to follow as long as things work. When they
are failing they cause waste of time and gas running around to get them
fixed.

If Apple want to charge me some outrageous amount to fix (or replace) my
iPhone, then I might as well jump to the next one and avoid a replay of
the same failure.

I asked you for a reference to the "reindexing". None provided.

Fact is (as past linked videos have shown) each iOS iteration makes
older iPhones perceptibly (and annoyingly slower). I doubt iOS 10 will
impact the 6 very much but iOS 11 will probably be the last update I'll
install on it.

At some point I put up links to the bending modulus of each model ...
the worst was iPhone 6+.

In the end bendgate *IS* an issue as it *IS* the root cause of the touch
disease. Mostly on the 6+ as it is the weakest of them all. Apple
improved the strength of the 6S/6S+ in the weak area (near the side
button holes) when it came out.

Not for nothing after all. It will become a latent defect issue for them.

Yes, the damn thing is rigid as hell compared to the 6 series. Her
needs are much more modest than the iPhone groupies here. She'd be
happy to keep it but the battery is needing more frequent charges (could
be replaced) but she's finding some functions slower too. Time to move on.

Or maybe you worded it really badly. Your statement that "There is
nothing about iOS that is important to anyone except on an emotional
thrill scale" seems to be the source of confusion here. It's certainly
confusing to me.

> The "thrill" is people eager to upgrade iOS when there is no urgency

I don't see how you can realistically decide for others whether
or not the new features are important to them. And claiming anyone who
appreciates those new features is an "emotional thrill" seeker seems
quite disingenuous to me.

What, if anything, is important about iOS 10 v iOS 9?

It's how I see it. I never asked anyone to agree with me. Just stated
my opinion about it: "Best practice is to wait for others to discover
the almost inevitable bugs in the .0 version before updating." Just
insert "IMO" at the start of that.

I don't think anyone needs to justify which features they feel are
important to you. It's one thing to say the features aren't important to
*you*, but quite another thing to state they aren't important to
*anyone* else. If someone feels the new Home app with HomeKit
capabilities is important for their home automation and security needs,
your feelings on the matter are irrelevant.

Thanks for confirming that nothing is so important that it can't wait
until all the eager beavers have validated the release.
