It is owned by AMC Networks, an American cable network company and receives no funding whatsoever from the BBC. (Actually, the BBC cannot provide funding for any channel available outside the UK, but that's a separate topic for another time.) BBC Studios used to have a stake in BBC America but AMC purchased the BBC's remaining stake of 50.1% in 2024 and now license the name and associated branding from the BBC. Similarly, AMC pays a fee to the BBC to air programmes they have made. So, to answer your questions: (1) No. (2) I believe it is classed as a basic cable network. Regards S.P.
