Yes I know the title is sort of vague but I have the specific error message.
E: linux-image-4.19.0-5-amd64: installed linux-image-4.19.0-5-amd64 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1E: linux-image-amd64: dependency problems - leaving unconfiguredE: initramfs-tools: installed initramfs-tools package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1 This is all new hardware;Ryzen 1950 CPU128GB ramASRock MB x399 TaichiAsrock RX570 GPU
The system is running on the originally installed kernel, but I tried to do a basic update and apt tried to install the kernel image listed but failed. There are hardware incompatibilities with the GPU but I will get that fixed. Need drivers.I am just puzzled by the error message. Thanks!John

There can be many reasons why this package's post-installation
script may have failed. I don't think you have shown the full
output.

Running "apt upgrade" again will probably either repeat the action
or tell you what to type to repeat the action, so please do that and
show us the full output.

Cheers,
Andy

yes I know and use it - much better than 80s dos style boot up screen,
but ... perhaps needs a check out of curiosity.

Do you know how/where to check this?

thanks in advance

I'd start with a straightforward approach:

lsinitramfs /boot/initrd.img* | grep ttf$

Hmm here it does not find anything, but plymouth is in the initram

When looking for ttf
grep
ttf -r /etc/initramfs-tools /usr/share/initramfs-tools/ /usr/share/lintian/overrides
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/plymouth: if
[ -e /usr/share/fonts/truetype/dejavu/DejaVuSerif.ttf ]

which brings me to the idea that I always wanted to look into this beast a
bit closer
