I have an old laptop with a Pentium II (686-pae) and an ATI Rage 128 (r128.ko) Mobility M3 video card. When attempting to run vlc, kaffeine, or mpv, they attempt o open up libvdpau_nvidia.so, which doesn't work. I've tried disabling hardware decoding in VLC, but it still tries to open that library. I think it's related to libavcodec55.so, which all three programs depend on. Any ideas on how to turn of hardware decoding?

I don't know about the other players or how to fix the system default, in vlc you could try to go to Tools -> Preferences -> Video -> Output modules and set Video output module to X11 or XVideo. Another thought: are there any nvidia packages installed on your system? This file appears to be from nvidia-vdpau-driver, so maybe you just need to remove that package?
