Hi, I have a home dir btrfs on top of luks Just recently there was a power falure to the machine and since then the volume is not mountable 1) I tried ro,recovery,nospace_cache,nospace_cache option of mount 2) I tried btrfs-zero-log -y -v 3) btrfsck --repair --init-csum-tree But for sure there is data in the volume. btrfs-show-super reports nicely the btrfs filesystem Can someone help me how to proceed further ? Usnig K 4.2.0 debian sid testing I thought of attaching more logs but was not sure what would be required. I will sure do if needed. Thanks Bhasker C V

Adam No. I have BTRFS file system upon a LUKS volume. I first unlock LUKS and then I get a dm-mapped btrfs Filesystem. You can't have LUKS on top of btrfs, because btrfs does not export any block devices for LUKS to encrypt.

If you want btrfs and encryption the advice is to do the encryption *underneath* btrfs, because btrfs does not support encryption itself. I'm not sure how/why you would layer a block device *on top* of a btrfs filesystem. -- Jonathan Dowland Please do not CC me, I am subscribed to the list.

Why, you can also enable hardware encryption in SSD sometimes :) It might not be so strong as LUKS though. Does TRIM work on LUKS, BTW? Certainly barriers shouldn't work, that's probably why Bhasker's FS was damaged.

Yes. It may require be a whole chain of "discard" options:
/etc/fstab:
UUID=... mountpoint ext4 discard 0 0
If we have LVM on top of LUKS:
/etc/lvm/lvm.conf:
issue_discards = 1
And finally:
/etc/crypttab:
name UUID=... none luks,discard
I think "sudo update-initramfs" and reboot is needed before it works.

I recommend asking for recovery instruction in btrfs@vger.kernel.org list as a last resort, the devs there might be more helpful.
