I don't have any issues with TB on a PC with operating system on SSD.
If I had to guess the culprit, it could be a failing HDD.
You should check "/var/log/syslog" for anything suspicious and\or
"smartctl".
This also could be a symptom of resource starvation. Run "free -h"
and\or "top" to see if there is any resource hogs.

It's a bug in Thunderbird.  It is the result of using multiple accounts
and something about multi-threading, I think, (on mine, anyway).  I have
not filed a bug, but surely they know about it, it's present on both
Linux and Windows, and through several versions.  I have been patiently
waiting for a fix, perhaps we should all file bugs, if they are
inundated with bug reports, maybe they'll be more motivated to fix it.

Cannot reproduce, everything is fine for me in Debian Stable and Debian
Testing, TB from repo in both cases.

Thunderbird under Debian 11 gave minor miscellaneous problems from
time to time. But when Thunderbird lost a couple of messages, I
switched to Evolution. Now I have no more problems and I prefer
the features Evolution; I wish I had discovered Evolution long ago.

Can't reproduce. If you have exact problem, please describe and/or fill
a bug.
Disclaimer: I use TB for about 10 years and don't have any
"miscellaneous problems" or "lost e-mails".

> But when Thunderbird lost a couple of messages

What you mean lost a couple of messages?
E-mails downloaded once to TB, usually still stay in on the server
unless you configure your e-mail client to DELETE them PERMANENTLY.
I for example configured my TB to delete e-mails in non-important
folders after a year, and never in important folders. If you can't find
an e-mail, do a global TB search or login to web e-mail portal to check
if your e-mail is still on the server.

My normal email client is mutt. I forward some HTML messages to
Thunderbird and get some mail directly to Thunderbird. I do not
recall the problems, because I do not use Thunderbird for critical mail.

>>But when Thunderbird lost a couple of messages

I did lose two or three messages which I did not delete. That
disturbed me. And that instance provided the impetus to search for an
alternative. I found Evolution, and I find it easier to use than
Thunderbird. All I am saying is that Evolution is a good alternative
to Thunderbird.

For me, my always-on 24/7 client is Claws Mail. It does sorting,
filtering, executing scripts on e-mail arrivals (for example Telegram
notifications), on home server computer.
TB is only to display end result and easily manage e-mail on my day to
day work PC, its interface is much more comfortable than Claws.

And Claws *may* lose entire database on sudden PC shutdown/crash.
Because files are not saved properly, or something, and some database
files inside Claws folder have 0 length upon next restart. It happened
to me once and I had to restore from backup. Very insecure! I don't know
if it is due to default settings in Claws, or something else, but no
other program I use does that. This was on RAID1 redundant Btrfs filesystem.
So yeah, I'd rather continue using TB for now as my main client.

This could have been user error. But I see your point. Thanks for
sharing solution you decided to use.
I don't see major problems with TB, so I may stay with it. I
experimented with KMail last year, but it wasn't any better than TB, so
why change.
