However, I have not had any trouble suspending or hibernating my laptops in the years since I reduced swap to 2GB. That is just my experience, and it may not be the same for others. But it might help the thread starter to know this is a feasible option (depending on their use case). P.S. I am on the list. It is sufficient to just reply to the list for me to receive your message.
