Not exactly. I'm stumbled upon this bug while upgrading an old system in 
production. I did not dare reboot the system without fixing initramfs creation.

This bug report actually gave me a hint that dkms could help, so I've added 
the work-around I've found to this bug report.

I hope this will save some time to the next ops that will have to upgrade a 
Debian 7 production system in vmware.
