Out of Tree modules always have to play catch-up because they can't know how the kernel will change in the future and thus they can't know in advance how their code should be adapted. You went to all that trouble to find a 7+ year old bug, with a title that doesn't convey a link with dkms compilation issue, unarchive the bug and respond to that, but you missed the (1st) response of a kernel maintainer?
