Package: rednotebook
Version: 2.28.1+ds-1
Severity: minor
X-Debbugs-Cc: ash@transient.nz

Dear Maintainer,

when LANGUAGE=en_GB, the rednotebook "Back" button has the German word
"Zurück".

This bug is not present if rednotebook is started with:

LANGUAGE=en_US rednotebook

or

LANGUAGE=en rednotebook

Kind regards,

strings /usr/share/locale/en_GB/LC_MESSAGES/rednotebook.mo

reveals a bunch more German that is not present in the source:

https://github.com/jendrikseipp/rednotebook/blob/v2.28.1/po/en_GB.po

There are more: the navigation dropdown has Vorwärts (Forwards), and the
Help menu has a German entry (with German tooltip) for "Give Feedback".
Everything else is in English. I do not speak German and have never used
a German locale on any computer.

Kind regards,

As a workaround, I downloaded the source message catalog:
https://github.com/jendrikseipp/rednotebook/blob/v2.28.1/po/en_GB.po

Compiled it to binary with:
msgfmt -o rednotebook.mo en_GB.po

And then installed it as:
/usr/share/locale/en_GB/LC_MESSAGES/rednotebook.mo

With this workaround, the en_GB translation is displayed correctly in
rednotebook.

Kind regards,

Thanks, Phil. Confirmed fixed in 2.29+ds-1.

One oddity is that /usr/share/locale/en_GB/LC_MESSAGES/rednotebook.mo is
now only 28 bytes, but I guess that this makes sense because en_GB is
the original language and there is nothing to translate. The size
reduction is an improvement.

Happy New Year!

Kind regards,
