Es ist m.E. eine reine Frage der Gateways zwischen den Netzen und
Old-Style-GSM-Telefonie wird garantiert über das Festnetz nach 1&1
terminiert und mehr als ISDN-Qualitart gibt es da halt nicht. Wie
es bei VoLTE aussieht -> vermutlich besser ...

Wenn sie keine echten und direkten VoIP-Gateways in die VoIP-Netze
der anderen Anbieter haben, dann hast Du recht. Ansonsten ist der
Codec zwischen den VoIP-Clients reine Verhandlungssache der Clients
selber.

Allerdings haben die gesetzlich vorgeschriebenen Abhör-Server (*1),
über die jedes VoIP-Gespräch in Deutschland laufen muss, bei der
Aushandlung des Codecs zwischen den Clients ein gehöriges Wort
mitzuspielen, ebenso ob verschlüsselt wird oder nicht.


*1) offizielle Bezeichnung: Anonymisierungs-Server  8-)
