I had another look and discovered the Princeton Shape Benchmark:
https://shape.cs.princeton.edu/benchmark/

It's not browsable at their site, but the archive contains all the
data, thumbnails and software to index them with webpages, so I've
done that here for the two sets of 907 3D models in there, with
basic links to the model file directories for downloads:

I also converted all the OFF files to STL, which seems to have
worked quite well.

Just the sort of thing I've been looking for!
