Folks, This is weird: USB to parallel adapters seem to not be liked at all by Windows 7 PCs. I am now testing #4. #1 through #3 all failed because the Windows 7 won't recognized them. All of them also caused the Win 7 PC not to even turn on anymore with the adapter plugged in. Now I was sent a replacement for #3. This #4 adapter (finally!) prints to my trusty old HP5L even from a Win 7 PC but when I turn the PC off it will never turn on again unless I unplug the USB-Parallel adapter, turn on the computer, then plug it back into a USB jack. Ok, I can make some sort of relay box for it that disconnects it and when I power up the PC lets that come back on with 20sec delay or so. But that's odd. None of them ever did that on several XP PCs and they always worked but not on this and another Win 7 PC. Setz' einen USB-Hub dazwischen, das sollte verhindern, dass der PC "kurzgeschlossen" wird. Wobei ich einen elektrischen Kurzschluß (bzw. Überlast) bezweifele, schließlich braucht eine LPT keine besondere Stromversorgung.

Seltsam ist, dass die Netzleuchte des PCs nicht angeht, die Festplatten nicht anlaufen, es passiert ... nix. Ist bei zwei Win 7 PCs so gewesen, bei drei XP Rechnern lief immer alles sauber. Es kann theoretisch an der USB Hardware liegen, ist aber unwahrscheinlich. Vor allem warum soll das dann an einem "XP-Rechner" funktionieren? Um ein Datenproblem auszuschließen, müsste man noch prüfen, ob der PC startet, wenn die beiden Datenleitungen unterbrochen sind, aber die Adapter-Versorgung angeschlossen ist. Ich denke immer noch, das Jörgs Relais keinen Kurzschluß, sondern eine frühzeitige Anmeldung verhindert.

Bei manchen Boards kann man die USBs im Standby auch stromlos schalten. Gruß Andreas

Das macht der Chipsatz, indem er die Leitung PS ON Pin 16 (ATX 2.2) bzw. 14 auf Masse zieht, diese wird im Netzteil aus 5 VSB (Pin 9) per Pullup versorgt und ist Low-aktiv. Da ist keinerlei BIOS, egal ob UEFI oder Legacy, dran beteiligt. Die einzige Möglichkeit die mir einfällt ist, daß die 5VSB wegen Überlastung wegfallen. Das passt aber nicht zu Jörgs Aussage, USB würde nicht mit 5VSB versorgt. Der UEFI-Teil inklusive SecureBoot wird vom Prozessor duchgeführt, der muß dazu also laufen und der wird mit Sicherheit nicht aus 5VSB versorgt. Und das Prüfen und Ausführen des signierten Bootcodes steht direkt vor dem OS-Loader, da sind noch reichlich Schritte dazwischen. Zumindest startet ein UEFI-System bis in die BIOS-Utils, auch wenn kein korrekt signierter Bootloader ausführbar ist. Bernd

Doch es liegen keine rueckgespeisten 5V an und auch wenn man den Drucker vom Stromnetz nimmt, passiert der Lock-Out des PC. Aber egal, kommt eben eine Relais-Mimik rein oder er muss unter den Labortisch (guter alter Erfi-Tisch und einen Meter tief).
