Selbst wenn sie nicht kaputt gingen, würde die Polarität nicht passen.
Logisch "Eins" ist bei RS-232-Pegeln ca. -12V(!), logisch "Null" ist
+12V. Raspberry Pi etc. erwarten hingegen 0 V für "Null" und 3,3 V für
"Eins".

Passenderweise ist im "Idle"-Zustand, d.h. ohne Datenübertragung, die
Leitung auf logisch "Eins". Du kannst die dann konstante Spannung mit
dem Multimeter ausmessen.

Die Richtung 3,3V Einplatinencomputer -> 5-V-Adapter ist ohnehin
unkritisch, der Adapter bekommt dann halt nur 3,3V. Da das aber über der
Schaltschwelle von ca. 2,5V liegt, erkennt er das Signal trotzdem
korrekt als logisch "Eins".

In Richtung 5-V-Adapter -> 3,3V Einplatinencomputer kannst Du einen
Angstwiderstand R in Serie schalten, der den maximalen Strom I_max auf
laut Datenblatt ungefährliche Werte begrenzt:
I_max = (5 V - 3,3V) / R
Bei manchen CPUs sind einige I/O-Ports auch 5V-tolerant. Steht dann
ebenfalls im Datenblatt. (Der Banana Pi ist mir nicht ausreichend
geläufig, um das dafür zu beantworten.)
