PMail 4.70 de, die 4.71 hat das gleiche Verhalten gezeigt, deswegen habe
ich sie wieder untergeworfen, die 4.73 habe ich noch nicht ausprobiert.

Aber auch in der pmail.ini stehen komische Fensterwerte, wie etwa:

"Application window rectangle = -4, -4, 1374, 748"
"Editor window default width and depth = 1374, 667"

Wenn ich mich recht entsinne (ist ja schon einige Jahre her), habe ich
die Fenstergrößen in state.pmj und pmail.ini auf legale Werte
zurückgepatcht, aber die -4 und -23 sind aber immer wieder auf
wunderbare Weise rekonstruiert worden.

Ich glaube, ich habe sogar das ganze Verzeichnis gesichert und gelöscht
und dann eine völlig neue PMail-Installation aufgesetzt. Gleiches
Ergebnis.

Ist ja auch egal, wie diese Werte zustandekommen, bei vernünftiger
Programmierung werden negative Koordinaten und Koordinaten größer als
die Bildschirmdimension abgefangen.

Das habe ich damals ergebnislos probiert, die haben mir (nach etlichen
Versuchen) noch nicht einmal die Registrierung bestätigt (wodurch ich
dort auch nicht schreiben konnte).


In einem uralten Thread dort berichtet einer von einem Problem, das
ähnlich sein könnte:

Eine Lösung ist dort aber nicht angegeben. 


Ich habe mein Problem damals auf Englisch zusammengestokelt, ich setzte
den Text (ohne große Hoffnung) einfach mal hier rein:



Hi, robhic (if you're still following this thread),

Google led me here. I encountered the same problem as you and have been
looking for a solution. I can reproduce the behaviour, as can another
user on a different machine, but I don't have a simple solution for it.
I suspect we found a bug.

On my screen (1366x768 px) PMail starts up with 2 windows side by side
(inbox and queue manager), filling up PMail's workspace. If I open a
"new message" window on top of them, a standard window appears
(including title bar and three buttons in the upper right corner). If I
maximize this window, everything looks normal: The window fills PMail's
workspace completely. If I terminate PMail now, I am asked "Cancel?" I
click yes. Another cancel-dialogue appears (which could be another bug).
Any click (on yes or no) closes PMail.

"state.pmj" now contains an entry "EDMAIL_M=0,0,1366,648". That's OK for
my screen parameters. 0,0 means upper left corner (of PMail workspace),
1366 is width in pixels, 648 is height in pixels.

Restarting PMail, I don't get my desired layout with inbox and queue
manager side by side. Instead, the inbox fills up PMail's entire
workspace. That may be due to the fact that I left PMail in a "maximized
window state" the last time I used it. At this point the above-mentioned
line "EDMAIL_M" still is intact.

On opening a "new mail" window, it comes up maximized, filling the
entire workspace as intended/desired. If I close this window now without
touching it (resizing etc.), PMail updates state.pmj, changing the entry
"EDMAIL_M=-4,-23,1370,644" to values outside my screen capacity
(shifting the upper left corner 4 pixels to the left and 23 pixels up,
enlarging the window width by 24 pixels and its height by 4 pixels).
This has no effect on the current session. Closing the "new mail" window
by pressing ESC and opening another one, it comes up maximized and looks
like its predecessor.

Even if I close and reopen PMail, it looks normal (BTW the entry QueueD
now contains bad values, too.)

But if I start PMail and restore my side-by-side layout with "Window -
Tile" (which restores proper values for "QueueD") and then open a "new
mail" window, I almost get the same screen you got: the new mail window
fills up the workspace, with scrollbars at the right and along the
bottom, and a title bar 3 pixels high. EDMAIL_M now reads
-8,-19,1366,648 (again: I didn't resize the window!). If I close PMail
again (click on main window's X and double "yes" in the cancel
dialogue), restart the prog and reopen a "new mail" window I get exactly
the same picture you got (title bar in normal height, X-symbol almost
hidden under scrollbar). EDMAIL_M now reads -8,0,1366,667.

As mentioned above, I have no simple solution for you -- but you're not
alone and the bug has not been fixed in the last 5 years :-)



Ich kann darum herumbasteln, aber es stört schon etwas, daß bei
Beantworten einer Mail das Arbeitsfenster größer ist als das angezeigte
Fenster, also der Cursor beim Schreiben unten aus dem Feld herausläuft
und man "unsichtbar" weiterschreiben muß. Auch mit dem Scrollbalken kann
man sich da nicht behelfen. 

M.W. zeigt schon die 4.51 dieses lästige Verhalten (weiter komme ich
hier nicht zurück).

Sowohl David Harris als auch irgendwelchen deutschen Support-Menschen
sind komplett unerreichbar. In der deutschen Hilfe steht, daß man sich
melden möge, wenn man sich beteiligen wollte. Das habe ich gemacht, aber
ohne Antwort. Nun gut, PMail ist ein kostenloses Programm, man muß dem
Autor dankbar sein, daß er seine Arbeit so der Allgemeinheit zur
Verfügung stellt. Andererseits fühle ich mich angesichts eines solchen
Verhaltens eher nicht bemüßigt, für Mr. Unerreichbar den Geldbeutel
aufzutun (Er hätte es nötig und verdient hat er es auch).
