Zustimmung. twm ist einfach nur gruselig, auch wenn es sich für Leute, die da zu der als "NEU" kennengelernt haben, irgendwie wie eine neue Welt angefühlt haben mag. Das soll jetz tnicht heißen, daß es schlecht ist, aber die Optik und die Art der Bedienung ist schon SEHR weit weg von dem, was der "Consumer" so erwartet hätte. Das Teil ist schon sehr "nerdig" ...

Ich weiss. In der Praxis ist mir das "da draußen" allerdings nicht ein einziges Mal begegnet, die Regel ist Windows Server haben Fenster. :-) Wir betreuen hauptsächlich mittelständische Firmen. Linux ohne Xserver, etc. allerdings mit schöner Regelmäßigkeit. Meine "eigenen" Systeme mal außen vor gelassen, fairerweise. Bei uns wars schwarz-weiß, weil wir nur Monochrom-Bildschirme und
Graphikkarten hatten. Aber prinzipiell konnte X auch damals schon Farbe.

TWM ist 1987 erschienen. Meiner Erinnerung nach war der nicht sehr viel
anders als die "Consumer"-Fenstersysteme jener Zeit (Mac, Atari, Amiga).
Windows war noch bei Version 1.0 und das hatte erstens niemand und
zweitens war es *wirklich* gruselig ;-)

War ein ziemlicher Aufwand den zu konfigurieren, aber wenn man den investiert hat, hatte man viele Möglichkeiten. Und sobald ctwm rauskam, habe ich auf den gewechselt, der konnte virtuelle Bildschirme. Gerrit
