Here is a heads-up for your pre-Christmas listening schedule.
Rupert Goodwins, a programmer for Sinclair Research and Amstrad, journalist  and former ZDNet editor is reflecting on suddenly losing his sight in five BBC radio essays beginning 16th December 2013.

As a young man he graced the cover of Sinclair User and faultlessly transcribed a section of "The Complete Spectrum ROM Disassembly" for a crowd project on World of Spectrum.

Yes I met him once on a train to Swansea. To pin the year down he had one of 
those luggable Amstrad PCs withe the little fold up screen.
 I seem to recall he also had a mobile phone the size of a house brick. Did 
he not work for  The Atomic Energy authority at one time, or did I dream 
that part.
 Interesting about losing his sight, as of course even then, I was partially 
sighed myself. We were on our m way to get some hands on time at the  unit 
where Sam Coupes were going to be made.
 I recall a bit of a todo between several of us media mob and Bruce Gordon. 
He was adamant that the midi port was the future but we all wanted a printer 
port and rs232.

Atomic Energy Authority ? Who hasn't included a few porkies in their Curriculum Vitae ?

Actually it could be possible as, at the time he appeared on the front of Sinclair User, he was working for Marconi before going to University.

The full article appears on Page 104. Four musicians and a ZX Spectrum programmer. The group Mensana were all members of that high IQ society Mensa chaired by Sir Clive Sinclair.

A lot of people at Sinclair Research were members and I think I read on ZDNet that Rupert was offered a job on the spot after a chance meeting with Sir Clive.

He still tweets regularly from trains and despite other drawbacks gets up very early for interviews on TV.

Should just say, no, I've never worked for the AEA (and don't think I've ever claimed to!). There was one incident in my early youth when I, ahem, unofficially accessed some computer systems that may have been connected with an organisation that may have been connected with the AEA, and they did offer me a job off the back of that, but I didn't, as they say, progress it...
