Alright, cast your minds back..

Released fairly early.
You played a delivery driver.
You could hire various vehicles.
You had to choose from delivery contracts.
You could get fined for speeding so had to be careful not to be too ambitious.
The most financially rewarding delivery was usually a pair of afghan hounds.

Ringing any bells?

Well, it's definitely not Stonkers.

I can't recall one quite like this.

Also the driving part of the game didn't involve any driving simulation, you just moved across a map. I guess I could try and find the tape when I visit the family for Christmas!

It's gradually coming back to me. I think the map was just England, or maybe England and Wales, because I'm fairly sure Carlisle to somewhere in the South-West was the longest journey you could make. In my head the driving screen looks a lot like the stages screen of Milk Race. As I recall the key flaw in the game is that you couldn't win, you just kept playing for as long as you could accrue money - although it's possible you could win by accruing a certain amount and I just didn't have the attention span.

It's not what you're thinking of, but there was a treasure hunt(?)
type game that had the entire UK as a map. The fatal flaw was it
didn't give much (or any) leeway to get to the destination, so you had
to move directly to the square for the location without deviation.

Hmm, I've been doing too much Spectrum emulator typing over the last
couple of days, and keep heading for Alt-7 for the apostrophe.

Chris

Trouble is of course lots of management games, strangely mostly about
Football or small third world countries abounded in those early days.

out of curiosity, someone has at least attempted to catalogue all the
implementations and developments of Hamurabi, as was done for the rogue
games ?

(the "small third world countries management" games descended from
Hamurabi....)

Best regards from Italy,
dott. Piergiorgio.

I particularly like Dictator.
I found the football management games yawn inducing, probably cos i have
no real interest in the sport myself. I used to farm them out to young and
keen folk to do the reviews then just sub edit them for the pages.

It's been a while and I can't remember more than one vehicle being
available, but could it be Juggernaut you're after?

Getting close, but nope. There was no skill involved in the driving element apart from going as fast as possible without speeding.
