El Reg has a lovely in-depth article on the development of the Ace to celebrate its 30th Birthday. http://www.reghardware.com/2012/09/21/jupiter_cantab_jupiter_ace_is_30_years_old/ -- Geoff http://www.reghardware.com/2012/04/27/retro_week_basic_instinct/page2.html

I never did get my head around Forth. Reminded me of that annoying game the Towers of Hanoi. Now, after reading that article, I *really* want one and *really* wish I'd learned Forth. Bit late for the latter now, although I might have a nose around t'interwebs and see what's what. The trouble with the Ace - apart from the obvious: mono graphics after the Spectrum came out, low memory (even if it “didn't need it”), rubbishy ZX80-style case, etc. - was that despite the designers' genius in getting a compiled, library-based language to work on cassette storage, it was still a bit of a kludge. If they'd waited a couple of years and used a more traditional implementation of the language on floppies it might have been a different story. -- Duncan Snowden.

A couple of members of the Spanish forum Zonadepruebas have made a DIY Jupiter Ace board. They had some fully assembled ones (without the case!) too. You'll probably have to google for it though. It was done late 2010 or early 2011.

Although it wouldn't be the same as a real one. I'm pretty sure I can't afford one of those. -- Duncan Snowden.
