Yes, yes, professional schmessional... what about the important question of us mugs on CS4 apps? If we move to Mavericks, will it run like Fireworks, Photoshop and Illustrator and BBEdit 8.2.6 as well and quick as on Snow? -- dorayme

I'm not sure about Fireworks - haven't used that for years.:-) - but according to my friend both Photoshop and Illustrator CS4 won't be as fast and stable on 10.9.x. And some plug-ins might even not work at all and would require upgrade/update... But one thing is for sure, you will need to upgrade your BBEdit to at least ver. 9.5.x. I found the old BBEdit 8.5 very slow on SnowLeopard, so I upgraded to ver. 9.6 and it /is/ faster than. Ver. 9.6.x also runs very fast on 10.6.x and 10.7.x. If I were you I'd stay with SL or upgrade to ML 10.8.x depending on your Fireworks version. 10.8.x is still the best and most stable Apple system until now... You can see Fireworks system requirements here... <http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/system-requirements-fireworks.html> Cheers, Erik Richard -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Erik Richard Sørensen, Member of ADC, <mac-daneRE@MOVEstofanet.dk> NisusWriter - The Future In Multilingual Text Processing - www.nisus.com Openoffice.org - The Modern Productivity Solution - www.openoffice.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I am puzzled by this, speed of this version of this app has never been any issue on my SL. What did you find "very slow"? The sentense should have been: "I found the old BBEdit 8.5 very slow on Lion, so I upgraded to ver. 9.6 and it /is/ faster than ver. 8.5. Ver. 9.6.x also runs very fast on 10.6.x and 10.7.x." Plus: "If you upgrade to 10.8.x or 10.9.x BBEdit 9.6.x or later is a must". This last part I haven't tried myself, but have it from my friend (mentioned earlier in the thread), who runs both 10.6.x, 10.7.x, 10.8.x and 10.9.x. - This should clear the misunderstanding.:-) Cheers, Erik Richard -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Erik Richard Sørensen, Member of ADC, <mac-daneRE@MOVEstofanet.dk> NisusWriter - The Future In Multilingual Text Processing - www.nisus.com Openoffice.org - The Modern Productivity Solution - www.openoffice.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If you open very large documents with BBEdit 8.5.x - i.e. +100Mb - especially with lots of HTML coding or huge databases to correct something, it can take long time - 2-3 mins. to find specific character combinations such as page and line breaks, color codes etc.. The same search type with BBEdit 9.6.x takes less than a minute. I used to regularly deal with a file that was over 1GB in size in BBEdit, but frankly, it was easier to deal with it in vim. -- SUSURRATION: It's a hushed noise. I have... <counts> 9 Macs currently running 10.9 and one running 10.6.8. In addition, I am direct support for about 30 more Macs, more than half of which are running 10.9. The only one that is having any weird problems is the 2012 MBP which seem to ALWAYS go into Hibernation mode when it is put to sleep and takes longer than I would like to restore that image into RAM. > Some problems look to me much similar to the problems that were with the > very old System 7.5.0, OS 8.0 and later on also 10.3.3 and 10.3.5 Server... Hmm. My recollection is that 10.3 was *excellent* and the first OS X that was really completely usable for pretty much anyone. I don't think I used 10.3 Server though. You either move forward to 10.9 or jump back to 10.6. If old hardware with a new Apple "Pro" app has you chained in purgatory then it's time to jump out of Apple's walled garden. The Apple "Pro" apps are nothing to write home about. I have an app on my Android phone that produces far better images than Aperture.

The next version of Mac OS X will likely be much worse now that Johnny Ive has been allowed to get his sticky mitts all over it. :-(

The screen will be so translucent that even the NSA won't be able to read it :-) I still do not understand why Aple is so orgasmic about translucency. It is the worse UI practice I have seen. It is not only useless, but also reduces usablility/readability.

I wonder what (hardware & software) Mr Ive uses to design all this stuff?

Would I have to buy Snow > Leopard and upgrade from there via the internet? mavericks is free, so you wouldn't find it there anyway. mavericks (and mountain lion that preceded it) is only available via the app store. lion was available both on the app store and on a usb stick (for a lot more money), but very few people bought the usb stick version, so apple didn't bother offering a usb stick version beyond lion. it was much easier and cheaper to just download it. you need snow leopard 10.6.6 or later to get the app store. if you have any version of snow leopard, you can upgrade to 10.6.8 for free, then get mavericks for free. if you are running an earlier version of os x, then you will need to get snow leopard to be able to get to the app store to download it. be sure that your computer can run it. mavericks requires an intel core 2 duo or later and 64 bit efi. older intel core duo (and solo) along with powerpc are not supported. what mac do you have and what version of os x is it running?
