Older MBP now will not fire up, and charger is showing green, but
battery indicator will only pulse rapidly on first light emitter.
(Battery was replaced several years ago.)

Battery also took a charge and worked all right for an older one just
ten days ago, even showing all five lights as fully charged. Is there
something that'll induce a charge? Someway to 'shock' it into working?

I'd rather not spend for a new battery, and one thought is that at a
Genius Bar they'd pop in a working battery to see the state of affairs.

You can get a new battery on ebay for 40 bux. No, it's not an official
approved sanctified blessed and hallowed Apple battery, but mine's been
running my MBP 4,1 for the last 2 years.

Hah! Just came back from Amazon, where a single twenny did the trick,
mit shipping. The vendor says I saved over $100. Buy ten more of those
and I'm good for a thou! :)

Still the curious in me is saying "Whaaaaaaat?".

Real Q: Don't these start up and run with just the power adaptor,
battery out? IIRC they did. But my recaller is very rusty on that point.

Yes. At least my MBP 4,1 works happily that way.
