Here is probably a decent article with a few pictures:
<http://www.maketecheasier.com/os-x-mavericks-vs-yosemite-ui/>

Otherwise, try the seach for 'yosemite interface ugly' which I mentioned
in another post.

Fair enough. I really hadn't taken exception to the changes. A while
back, I thought the scroll-direction change was just fucking about for
it's own sake (I use the scroll wheel on my mouse) but now I guess I
dont' care. There are always gonna be changes. I want my Mac to look
like this:

osh_Desktop.png>

My Desktop was tidier than that.

You're talking to someone so stupid he thinks that making fun of Johnny
Ive's name is the height of hilarity. Really, he's an obvious jackass.

Is this something that offends you? Like, I dunno, mocking the

No, I just think it is juvenile and stupid and says far more about the
person doing it than they probably realize.

And the record clearly shows that, with no provocation whatsoever, you
descended to ad homonem vulgarity. What does that say about you?

Check your facts. I simply kill filed him when he made fun of Ive's

Well, let's go to the source. Today's Macintouch published this link to
Apple's 10.10 HIG manual (free):

<https://itunes.apple.com/us/book/os-x-human-interface-guidelines/id930571558>

The iOS HIG, published last year, is also available on that page.

it seems you are running an old version of Mactracker. Mine tells me
this machine can run the latest release of OS X and max. 6GB RAM.

Yes, that is the official version: buy 10.6 fom Apple (which will be a
10.6.3 DVD), upgrade it to 10.6.8 with Software Update (ca. 1.06GB
download). From the App Store you won't be able to "buy" any OS version
than Yosemite (more than 5GB download).

Be aware that PPC programs won't run on OSs later than 10.6.x.
Some Apps like iPhoto will require tools to upgrade the database.

If you want to migrate your data from the existing iMac to a new one,
you have to update the old one to 10.6.x anyway...
I recommend doing the migration via FireWire (faster than networked).
Then you'd need a FireWire 800 cable and a Thunderbolt to FireWire
adapter...

Cheers
Andreas

My version of MacTracker is old because it didn't mention 10.10 as an OS
alternative. However, on the 6GB of RAM issue, evidently the machine can
indeed take up to 6GB, though Apple officially says only 4GB, which is
what's installed. I'm hesitant to go to the expense of having them
replace one of the existing 2GB modules with a 4GB because the machine
is so old.

Not to pick a nit, but importing data from a 10.5 (Intel) diskimage
should work, right?

Apple doesn't do aftermarket memory upgrades. You would need to get the
memory from somewhere like Other World Computing and install it
yourself.

It isn't particularly cost effective: the 4 GB module required for that
model is over US$100, which is more than three times the price of the
corresponding 2 GB module.

http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/5300DDR2S4GB/

If you can justify the cost, it is probably worth it for the likely
performance boost (assuming the same working set: less need for memory
compression and less hard drive activity from swapping).

Not if you want to use Migration Assistant (or Setup Assistant during
initial setup). For recent OS X versions, the source Mac for a migration
must be running 10.6 or later.

It was possible to migrate from 10.5 to 10.8, but not from 10.5 to 10.9
or 10.10. In fact, Apple stretched the minimum version by one for 10.10:
for 10.6 through 10.9, the limit was migrating from three versions
earlier.

Manual copying from 10.5 to 10.10 is possible, but a lot more work as
you would have to export a fair amount of stuff on the old Mac which is
stored in databases (e.g. Address Book, iCal) and import it on the new
Mac.
