Hi JR

I had a telephone conversation today with an Apple Support employee
based in Portugal. He was the same man who had been unable to uncover
the reason why I couldn't start my iMac in Safe Boot mode, way back in
November.

He was surprised when I explained that, following my very helpful
discussion with you, I had solved the problem! When I explained what
needed to be done he said that rang a bell in his distant memory. It was
something he had been told during his Apple training years ago but that
never, not once, had the situation ever arisen in practice in his role
as a now senior support professional. He thanked me ..... and I now pass
on those same thanks to you. :-)

I requested that he send a memorandum to all of his colleagues so that
other advisers will not be caught out in the same manner. Time will tell!

My sincere thanks once again for your help.

Thanks for doing that. It will no doubt help others.

I believe we should all help one another whenever we can. :-)

I'm uncertain if I ever showed you this thread where I was asking about
matters on the ASC:-

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8614965

What's the best way to report to everyone on the ASC what the solution
you uncovered actually was? (now that that thread is closed) Maybe a new
thread referring back to the old one?

Will you remind us of what it was that solved the "no safe boot" problem?

He had a firmware password set, which prevents booting from anything
other than the volume set in System Preferences > Startup Disk.
