I am not sure if I should ask here or in a Windows 10 group but here goes!

I have a Mac Mini running High Os Sierra and have used this site

https://cutedgesystems.com/software/VPNEnablerForHighSierra/

To enable its VPN server. It works well and I can connect to it from my 
iPhone/iPad/MacBook Pro.

However all attempts to connect from a Windows 10 notebook have failed. 
I have Googled and tried all the suggestions I came across but failed.

Any suggestions please (other than dump the Windows 10 notebook!!)

it's standard l2tp/ipsec, which you set up in network & internet
settings.

Outside.

In the WIndows 10 VPN connection settings :

Connection Name: My VPN Server
Server name or address : my external IP address (I have a fixed IP)
VPN type: L2TP/IPSec with pre-shared key
Pre-Shared key : the shared secret key I set up in the VPN enabler.
Type of sign in info : Username and Password

Username:

Password:

then when I try to uyse it it gives an error saying it cant connect.

What does the VPN server log say when you try to connect?
(In macOS 10.13, it's usually at /var/log/ppp/vpnd.log)

that suggests it isn't seeing the server, or you'd see at least an
attempt.

you did say you could connect from outside the lan from the mac and ios
devices, so presumably the router is set up correctly, but it's worth
checking that.

All I said my iPad, iPhone and MacBook pro allconnect from outside the 
Lan and there are entires in the log confirming this. Is it the Windows 
10 client is looking for a VPN connection on a diferent port?

the client initiates the connection. 

check if the router set up for l2tp passthru, which it should be if you
can connect using other devices. also check its logs (which it probably
has). 

also try connecting from within the lan to remove the router from the
mix. you may need to change the server ip in the vpn configuration if
your router doesn't do nat loopback.

Ok

Connecting from within the local network is Ok and produces the log 
entry confirming this.

 From outside the lan conncetion fails and there is no log entry

Then your problem is actually a Windows issue. You'll need to figure out
why your Windows VPN client isn't actually connecting to the server.
Maybe try a different VPN client.

Why not try Real VNC from realvnc.com? Free. Works for me with High
Sierra, Windows 10 Pro, and Raspbian (Debian Linux) on Raspberry Pi.
