Running 10.8.5 on a two year old MacBook Pro. It totally ignores my energy saver settings in system preferences. Other than moving to Maverick, is there anything I can do, or look for to correct this. TIA

Try deleting the associated preference file. That would be
"com.apple.PowerManagement.plist", found in the main Library
("/Library", in the "SystemConfiguration" folder. If you want to reset
scheduled wake-ups, etc., there's another file named
"com.apple.AutoWake.plist".

There are various reports of issues with it. I'm almost sure it's what causes my display to go to sleep for no reason under OS X 10.2 (despite all of the Energy Saver options being turned off / set to "never"). You can try deleting the Energy Saver preferences, but it's unlikely to help for long, if at all.

And in what situation did it last work? I've had situations where, for various reasons, my Mac would not sleep when I wanted, and others when it would sleep when I didn't want. Both solved by third party programs. -- <http://www.decohen.com> The Labyrinth of the Heart: Changed Myths for Changing Lives book and e-book <http://www.decohen.com/labyrinth.htm> Send e-mail to the Reply-To address, not the From address.

I came back from a trip a few days ago, and I noticed that my MBPro wasn't going into display sleep when it was idle. I checked my preferences and they had the normal settings. Then I remembered that a few days ago I had started Jiggler while I was watching an online bridge Vugraph broadcast. This is an app that fakes jiggling the mouse every couple of minutes, to prevent sleep and screensaver. It has an option to auto-quit after a settable period of time, but I forgot to use it that night, so it was still running since then. -- Barry Margolin, barmar@alum.mit.edu Arlington, MA *** PLEASE post questions in newsgroups, not directly to me ***

Enter this command into a terminal window, then copy the resulting output and paste it in a reply here: pmset -g assertions -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter.
