For most people not much. It is still a phenomenal text editor and
supports full regex searches.

The main things missing are project windows, shell worksheets, and HTML
tools.

The Bare Bones company also makes free(?) TextWrangler, but I'm not
sure how much functionality has been missing from it compared to
BBEdit.

Mainly TextWrangler can do the most common things as BBEdit, but it is
more limited in various places. - TW isn't able to use all the plug-ins
that can be used in BBEdit. - Here I still prefer to use either the
classic BBEdit 6.3 or the BBEdit Lite X 6.1.2, but the Lite doesn't work
in systems later than 10.5.8, - but it handles about 90% of the same
plug-ins that can be handled by BBEdit.

Cheers, Erik Richard

The Bare Bones company also makes the free(?) TextWrangler, but I don't
know how much functionality is lost compared to BBEdit.
