#72962 — Photos

After the latest update, Apple put up a little nag on my screen
encouraging me to try Photos. OK, why not?

It helpfully offered to convert my Aperture library. I'm not that
dumb, so I created a new Photos library instead. Here's what I have
found:

The application's feature set has been severely constrained. Most of
the advanced operations are no longer possible. This new program will
be totally unsuitable for any photo amateur who shoots RAW files, for
one. It includes a retouch tool, but nothing like the Aperture tools
for basic image editing of course.

It really seems geared at getting you to jam your photos into iCloud.
All in all, it seems like a product for smartphone users, not for
photography enthusiasts or professionals.

I would say more but the application is so feature-bare that I have
just produced a comprehensive review! Three thumbs down.

Yea I would say that Photos exists to encourage you to move to Lightroom.

Hell will freeze over before I will ever install or run any Adobe
software again.

Did they raze your old homestead to the ground? That seems like a harsh
condemnation, for what is currently pretty good software.

From a shit company.

I have no Adobe software on any Mac I own and I never will. If I had a
job that required Adobe Software, that job would have to provide me a
computer to run it on. (Not likely, it's been 15 years since I last
needed something like InDesign and back then I was using Quark Xpress
and Framemaker anyway).

I don't trust Adobe as a company, so I don't trust their software. I'm
also sick of having to clean their malware off other people's computers
who make the mistake of installing Flash.

I've heard your mother has ten. They say when she jerks off a cock it's really different. And when she sucks it, it's like she was dying of thirst in the desert and found water.

Aren't you sorry you started, Asshole?

That is my take on it.

I couldn't agree any stronger.

If I could match your extra thumb deformity I would. So here are my two
thumbs to give you a grand total of five thumbs down.

Is it better than iPhoto?

I give four stars to Lightroom.

I don't believe so. However, Lewis seems to think it is a great
improvement over Apple's prior image editing and management software.

Agreed. Lightroom is the starting point for all my photographic work,
many times it is all I need.

But you have failed to provide a single instance in which iPhoto was
better.

Then Photos is probably not for you. For the majority of Mac owners, it
is an improvement.

For me, it's definitely a downgrade. It is meant for toddlers.

I don't understand how any iPhoto user could consider this an upgrade
at all, and it's certain that no Aperture user will find any purpose
for this new software.

Just another sign of the now seemingly inevitable decline of Apple's quality.

The problem is Ive's fixation on minimalism and blending OSX with iOS.

While I would like to agree, it's Mr. China Outsourcing Man Tim Cook
who is in charge.

If Ive was in charge it might be different, but who knows.

Certainly Cook runs & controls the business side, and keeps the board
content, but it is Ive and his design philosophy who drives the look
and feel of hardware and software that is currently being presented to
us.

So when it comes to design, it is Ive who is in charge. It is Ive who
has delivered the iPod, iPhone, iPad, iMac, OSX, iOS, all the companion
software, and now the Apple Watch. It is Ive who has donned the mantle
of the "Cupertino primadonna who should not be challenged".

Weren't they around when Steve Jobs helmed Apple before he died?

Yup! However, back then all was done to appease Steve.

You know Lewis, if you like the new software, just use it and shut up.

I'm still waiting for anyone at all to say anything concrete about how
Photos is worse than iPhoto. So far, nothing.

> You don't have to evangelise around here. You're starting to sound like

You and a couple of others keep saying how much worse it is, but never
have a single specific example of anything that is worse. So, anytime
someone says it is worse, I'm going to ask how it's worse until I get an
actual answer.

If this bothers you, you know what to do.
