Because I'm using my iPad, and I don't want to put it down, take out my iPhone, use the app, put the iPhone away, and pick up the iPad again. Or maybe it's because I want to copy something (e.g., text or a graphic) from the iPhone app and paste it into an iPad app.

The only app I have on my iPad that is a iPhone app is a spare weather app that I have because its alerts system is more reliable than the other apps. And if you can manage to figure out a way for the iPad to know a priori which iPhone apps you want to be automatically downloaded and which you don't, you can make a fortune selling that patent to Apple.

I (and others) explained exactly what we want. Apps that run only at phone size and have a 1X 2X setting on the iPad? Those apps? Yeah, would like a preference so that auto-install ignores those apps. That is, that auto install only auto-installs apps that run at native resolution on the device. Very simple. -- There's nothing to do, so you just stay in bed [ah, poor thing] Why live in the world when you can live in your head?

Thing is that there are apps that that run only at phone size and have a 1X 2X setting on the iPad that some people want on their iPads. I'd hazard that there are more people who want some of them than there are people who don't want any of them.

You're in the developer circuit? > a *lot* of people prefer native apps. that's why developers spend so > much time making an ipad native app. Yup, no argument or disagreement there. I'm not saying that developers shouldn't make universal apps. > > > if that were the case, why do so many people bitch about not having > > > native ipad apps? > > > > Non sequitur; your question has nothing to do with the premise. > > it has *everything* to do with it. > > the fact that people bitch about it means they don't want iphone apps > on their ipads. > > they want native ipad apps, which is why developers take the time to > write ipad native apps. Right, but if there isn't an iPad version of the app, and there isn't a universal version of the app, and they want to run the app in their iPad, why in the world do you want to make it hard for them to do that?

I already showed you how that can be done.

A few. Few enough to install manually. Or to not enable the preference I want. > I'd hazard that there are more people who want some of them than there > are people who don't want any of them. I seriously doubt it. Everyone I know gets pissed when they accidentally get a iPhone app on their iPad. -- Gehm's Corollary to Clarke's law: Any technology distinguishable from magic is insufficiently advanced.
