I now have access to all 490 GB of a borked MBP, via booting off an external FW drive. I was thinking of copying- cloning is perhaps a better word, most of it to a 500 Gig HD, reformatting the broken computer, and then restoring it to the now hopefully nicely formatted and running MBP. But what to use? Time Machine? SuperDuper? Straight copy, then install Yosemite Fresh? TM and then fresh install then Restore via TM? In fact, does TM make a copy of all or most of the System files? In any event, I will be leaving out a hundred or more Gigs on the restore.
