Do you mean that all of these warnings I've been getting, > around every other day, that my Adobe Flash must be updated have been > fakes? It's a wonder my computer runs at all. That's not what I said. If you are browsing a website and the webpage (or a pop-up window in your browser) displays an unsolicited message that tells you that you need to install or update Flash, then unless you are on the adobe.com website, you should be suspicious of the message. If instead you have Flash already installed and configured to automatically check for updates periodically, and you see a notification outside of your web browser telling you an update is available, then you should check to be sure the notification is in fact from Adobe. In either case, you should *never* install any software advertised through any unsolicited message in your web browser. You should *always* be sure to download software *directly* from the entity that creates the software in question. For Flash that means the adobe.com website and no other place on the net. As I've said previously: There is not much of a real need for any Mac users these days to install Flash. If you encounter a video on the web that claims Flash is needed, use the Debug menu to change your User Agent string to one of the iOS strings and like magic, nine times out of ten, the video will play. This has to do with the fact that website authors often use HTML5 to play videos on mobile devices, but use Flash to play them on desktop devices - a really silly convention these days. -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. I often ignore posts from Google. Use a real news client instead. JR
