I do software development and more on multiple Macs running different versions of macOS that go weeks or months between restarts, where the main reason for the restarts is often system updates. The most problematic out of all of them is the one running El Capitan (can't upgrade past that without significant hacks, unfortunately). The ones running High Sierra are quite stable and issue-free in general. > My linux servers can stay up for months without issue, busily humming > away doing chip design stuff. Linux is primarily geared for serving (as opposed to desktop) where special attention has been paid to resource management and throughput. macOS is a desktop OS first, where restarting occasionally isn't as big of a deal. Apple should still strive for efficiency and robustness; but you should compare apples to apples. How does macOS stack up compared with another desktop OS like Windows, for instance, in terms of memory management, stability, and so on? I'd say it stacks up pretty fucking well in general. > I guess Apple does not test for this. They do. macOS is much more of a moving target though, with desktop workstation rather than high end server priorities. -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter.
