I want to use FaceTime under Mavericks so that I can share stuff with a remote colleage. However, with FaceTime (3.0) on both my iMac (10.9.5) or MacBook Air (10.9.5), whenever I type in my Apple ID's email address and password in the FaceTime prompts and click Sign In, it briefly changes "Enter Apple ID" to "Signing in..." and then changes it back to "Enter Apple ID", leaving me apparently not signed in to FaceTime. Only if I deliberately enter a wrong password or ID does it say "Incorrect Apple ID or password". So I'm entering my info correctly but not getting anywhere. On another MacBook Air running 10.10.2, when I start FaceTime (3.0), it logs me in without asking for my password and activates the camera, showing me in the FaceTime window, ready to make a connection (which I verified I was able to do). Is there some setting I need to fix under Mavericks to make FaceTime work? Martin

This apparently happened because I have two-factor authentication enabled for my Apple ID. It seems that FaceTime under Mavericks has no way of telling me why it fails to log me in when the password and ID I use are correct. FaceTime under a brand new Yosemite install, on the other hand, gave me the relevant error message. Setting up an application-specific Apple ID password for FaceTime resolved the problem. Martin
