It's hard to back up that far, but it seems to me beginners would find a slot that SAYS "search" friendlier. How would it be if you could choose other approach, set in the Prefs? (mind you, so few people have any natural curiosity that it prolly wouldn't occur to beginners to look there). -- Tim "That excessive bail ought not to be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted" -- Bill of Rights 1689

If I start typing a web site name, domain completion usually finds it. Searches almost always have a space in them, and as soon as I type the space it figures out what I'm doing and shows search term completions. I'm referring to Chrome, I assume Safari behaves similarly. I've been tempted to switch my mother's computer to Chrome just to get her this feature (our computers are still running Snow Leopard, because we have a couple of Rosetta apps). -- Barry Margolin, barmar@alum.mit.edu Arlington, MA *** PLEASE post questions in newsgroups, not directly to me ***

As I said in an earlier post, it used to simplify in one way, now it simplifies in a different way. So it's a step sideways for those single-word entries, not forward or backward. But when you type multiple words, it's clearly a step forward, since that would have caused an error before and now it does something reasonable. -- Barry Margolin, barmar@alum.mit.edu Arlington, MA *** PLEASE post questions in newsgroups, not directly to me ***

Time was when I might type: javascript: alert (some expression here); // note the space after the : into the address bar and it worked. Then suddenly it didn't work [1], and that debugging tool, I thought, was dead. After some pissing about I found I needed to do: javascript:alert (some expression here); // no space after the : I find that very boring. [1] It didn't work because it fucking googled that string -- Tim "That excessive bail ought not to be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted" -- Bill of Rights 1689
