Abandoned Safari for the umpteenth time this week. So tired of it's google search sticking and video streaming issues..... So ... to Firefox. Whenever I open a new window it keeps opening it one step zoomed and I keep having to rest it back to normal. Is some setting switched on somewhere that I can turn off ? Tks. -- Howard

Look at you Prefs and Content and set your preferred font size (consult the prefs in Safari if you liked the normal font size there) -- dorayme

It's the Zoom setting. When I go to View/Zoom/Reset it goes to normal.. -- Howard

It's the Zoom setting. When I go to View/Zoom/Reset it goes to > normal.. There are two types of Zoom in FF (as in some other browsers too, like my Safari). One of them acts a lot like a magnifying glass in that the whole is magnified, the other type of zoom called Zoom Text Only just ups and downs the text size, leaving other elements like images, if they are styled in px units. But some elements (boxes of various sorts as well as images sometimes) will vary under Zoom Text Only because they are styled in em units or other types of *font-size* units. Website authors often deliberately do this so that their designs are flexible Even so, the Text Size Only Zoom is sometimes a bit more sophisticated than mere text size alterations, there are other layout considerations, sometimes smart rendering not to unduly trouble users to horizontally scroll. But no matter how you have it set, as far as I know, it should not vary by mere opening a new tab? I would set your prefs again and save and then conduct a standard test, see below. Anyway, what *type* of zoom is set for your FF? You can see which type by looking to see if there is a tick next to View/Zoom/Zoom Text Only. What is set as your preferred font-size in your prefs? Conduct an experiment that we can all verify and check back with you on, a url of a page with a link to the page itself, open it in a new window and a new tab and say what exactly happens, is text *the same size* but other things like pictures not the same size? I'd be surprised at this. Are both text and all else bigger by mere opening in a new tab or new window? Is it influenced by whether you use the one type of zoom or the other (see above)? -- dorayme

I always browse in new tabs, so I constantly keep my left thumb hovering on the command key, ready to command-click. Also my Logitech mouse has a centre wheel. I have discovered that any touch to the wheel while I make contact with the command key immediately triggers a zoom, whether in or out depending on the direction of the wheel. Also .. it appears that Firefox remembers the level of zoon last used on every web page visited ! So .. I 'think' that I was accidentally triggering the zoom, and then revisiting web pages a while later and finding them zoomed in .... or not ... as the case may be. Sorry about the confusion :) -- Howard

I was sure that my new iPad had some bug when it went to sleep every time I altered the volume on the hardware buttons... but I think I must have accidentally touched the sleep hardware button around the corner at the same time! -- dorayme

Problem solved. Maybe, maybe not. I have Zoom while holding Control for my Magic Mouse and this zooms the whole screen. I can zoom the FF window alone with Command and scroll by finger rub on the mouse. If I change the Sys Pref option to Command to zoom with the mouse, it then makes this the zoom all over monitor, Control rub then works just for the FF window! There is a need to distinguish between types of zooms... whole screen mag up and down, browser viewport content up and down and then there is the further subtlety to distinguish between browser Zoom and Zoom Tex Only. -- dorayme
