I'm battling back from disaster-- almost all my apps on the iPad were wiped clean of all data somewhere in the middle of the nasty battle with a new computer with the worst OS I've ever had to deal with: Yosemite. I now have to clear away the old posts here to get up to date before I leave home on my yearly trip combo and have only Newstap on the iPad with me. -- biblioholic medievalist

Indeed. It doesn't happen by accident, and it's their fault they did not transfer or backup the old iTunes data (it sounds like). -- If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

The point is someone (you or your "more capable" helper) caused your data to be erased from the iPad by answering "yes" to the question "This will delete all data from your iPad. Are you sure?" It's not something that just happens on its own. -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. I often ignore posts from Google. Use a real news client instead. JR

Right, but with proper backups you should never lose much data at all. In this case there is a backup, but E-wassit seems to not want to talk about why s/he/it is not using it and also claims it doesn't contain any data, only apps. This is why it is important to back up to more than one location. Eschew single backups. "The final happiness of man consists in the contemplation of truth.... This is sought for its own sake, and is directed to no other end beyond itself." I have a friend who has a twenty year old Mac that holds some data that she thinks is invaluable. The kink is, she forgot the password and can't get into it. For twenty years. The same person, proud of her keyboard shortcuts, intended to blow away a folder by <Shift Del>, eliminating the copy to the recycle bin. Instead, she hit <some more keys plus Shift Del> and blew away the entire branch _except_ the folder she had selected. Of course, she could have recovered them with any number of file recovery tools but she didn't know how. _Nobody_ should ever do <Shift Del>. The recycle bin covers a multitude of errors. Paul

If it were me, I would no longer use him for service. Even though I agree with his point of view, what he does is mean and nasty, and can even hurt someone who *doesn't* use it for storage, but wants to get back something that was deleted.
