HI I have a Samsung R530 laptop & the wifi has a very limited. Range is only 18-20 feet & the it looses the signal. I have been to the Samsung website & upgraded drivers & firmware with little or no difference. I then bought a dongle & the is working very well. A friend said that he went on a forum & they said that the wifi in the R530 is weak/ My question; is it possible to install another motherboard in the R530 with better wifi/specs? -- Martin ©¿©¬

Is the antenna connected to to wireless card? You might be able to open it up enough to check

Not sure what Samsung has available....know you can do it with a Dell BTW I have a used Dell C400 that had weak wireless and upon lifting the keyboard I found that one of the two antenna wires had come loose from the wireless card

They are relatively easy to replace if you find that they antenna wires are both connected.

I've been using Ots for...sheesh... 7 or 8 years, I think. Bought in when the licenses were still under $100. :)

Thank you for all your very helpful suggestions. I had thought because the ethernet on the R530 was only 10/100, that that was the reason for the week signal strength. I will try the Wharf rat & Mike's suggestion. -- Martin ©¿©¬

No, but luckily your problem is more likely a bad antenna wire. Find the wireless card and make sure the little snap connectors are firmly seated. Then trace the wires (they probably run under the keyboard to either the sieds of the case or the LCD bezel.

They're really easy to spring so they won't touch.
